Thousand Word Thursday: Gecko Hunting!

First off, let me tell you I don’t like anything that has more than two legs and crawls on the floor! I’m certain it’s my mother who gave me my fear of critters. I knew Texas would have different critters than Ohio but what hasn’t changed is my fear of them! Outside they're tolerable.

Well, earlier this week we had an uninvited house guest! I was in the office; a spare bedroom on the first floor. I entered the hallway to walk upstairs, and in my peripheral vision I saw something scurry across the floor. I had to wait patiently for it to return and when it did it ran into the hall closet. I went it after it, armed with my weapons; I was determined to capture it. Finally, I cornered it, covered it with a glass and slid a piece of cardboard underneath the lip of the glass. Very carefully, I took it outside returned him to his home! He’s pictured here, just before his release. It was difficult to focus on the fine detail but he must have been young. He was still pretty transparent as evidenced by the dark areas where his eyes and internal organs are.

As defined by http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Gecko?jss=1 a gecko is a "any of numerous small, mostly nocturnal tropical lizards of the family Gekkonidae, usually having toe pads that can cling to smooth surfaces: the largest species, Gekko gecko, is sometimes kept as a pet."

Thankfully, these Gecko has remained outside! To give you some perspective that brick in in the first picture is 4 1/2 by 7 inches. So, they probably are about 6 inches from nose to tail. I'm hoping that they don't get any bigger! They really are pretty timid creatures but I still don't like them!

PLEASE NOTE: NO GECKO'S WERE HARMED!

Thanks so much for visiting and remember to ALWAYS enjoy your own life's wild ride!
