Today it was ALL about TA TAS! Big ones, little ones, and ones that are no longer there. But, here size isn't important; it doesn't matter. There were THOUSANDS present to show their community support, encourage prevention, and fund research all in order to keep what God gave us. And the SURVIVORS were abundant! Women. Men. Black. White. Asian. Hispanic. Young. Old. The possibilities were endless. It was amazing that everyone has come together annually and nationwide since 1982 for ONE reason. Last year Houstonions raised 3.8 million dollars. This year there were about 40,000 supporting a cure! Everyone...coming together...for one purpose, one reason...on behalf and in memory of thousands more.

A father and daughter TEAM! Kathryn is proudly wearing her medal that she received for crossing the FINISH LINE! David ran in the competitive race of about 3000 participants. Kathryn and I walked in the Kids and Families Walk along with his co-workers. David took 10th place in is age group and 172 overall! We are so proud of him for doing well and for supporting a worthy cause. I hope that for Kathryn's sake breast cancer will be eradicated in her lifetime.

Thousand Word Thursday: Supporting No. 115

Bad habits. Eating. Drinking. Smoking. Shopping. The different bad habits are numerous. I will be honest, some of you may not be happy with me after reading today's post. Despise me even. I am presenting you with a challenge on behalf of your family and friends. Will YOU rise to the challenge?

On Labor Day morning most of us enjoyed sleeping in just a little more. But, nearly 240 challenged themselves in a 10km (about 6 miles) race in Alliance, Ohio. David was one of those challengers. We are very proud of him! He set a goal for himself to start running again and he stuck with it! Since moving to Houston, he has lost 30 pounds by changing his diet and exercising! His loss is inspiring! His ispiration was our dear daughter, Kathryn. To be healthier for her. To live longer for her. He came in at number 39 in the race! Wow! Here's our number 115 before the race!

His reasons are enough of a reason for me to challenge myself, also. Most of us have bad habits that could be eliminated with effort and willpower. Some of the smallest reasons that we need to improve our lifestyles sit right at our own dinner tables. 30% of Americans are obese. U.S. Obesity Trends from 1985 thru 2008 are shocking.

My challenge to you...what BAD habit will YOU break? AND who means enough to you in your life to impact your decision?
