Because I am one of those people that absolutely dreads getting sick! Eventhough, I am a strong advocate of habits that one can follow in order not to get sick, once in a while I contract some sort of viral infection that I think just might kill me. I am not a doctor, just a nurse! (Sort of an inside joke!) Working as one for nearly 10 years, I was rarely sick. I attribute it to those habits.
Here are my suggestions to keep those BAD germs at bay:
* Wash hands hands frequently! Consider your hands dirty until they have been washed! Just think of all the things we touch in a day and what is on them! Money, door handles, phones! Ugh!Don't touch face or eat until hand are washed! This is self explanatory, but there are many times that we touch our faces without realizing it. This should include even when we're at home! Remember, germs live on inanimate objects for nearly two weeks! Germs need just a brief opportunity to infect you. Also, prevent spreading germs by washing your hands AFTER you have blown your nose, wiped it, or picked it! (All of which are the reason for this ranting that I doing today! Someone just had to get me started thinking about germs!)
*Find a hand sanitizer that you like.
There are so many out there on the market. Many are made with alcohol, like Purell, which is why I can't use it because it is very drying to my hands. Personally, I prefer HandClens or BabyGanics Foaming Hand Sanitizer. I started using this brand because I didn't know if the HandClens would be safe for Kathryn to use. Afterall, there were those children deaths a few years ago due to them putting their Purell hands in their mouths!
Of course, those are my two favorites but there are many good ones out there. Target even sells an all natural one called Clean Well, but I found the smell unpleasant.
*Don't be intimidated by service people. Whether it's a nurse, doctor, or the deli guy ask them to WASH THEIR HANDS!
OKAY, now you're READY! Go out there into this GERM INFESTED WORLD but be GERM-FREE yourself!

I especially like the deli counter people who wear gloves, touch door handle to open freezer, pick up everything and anything BEHIND the counter, slide open deli windows, hand other customers their product, then proceed to slice your meat, pick it up and VIOLA ! the meat you just bought is germ free because they were wearing GLOVES! Never once changing gloves, becasue of course they had gloves ON to begin with. Oh yeah, they hand samples to the children with the gloves on and I have even seen the clerk "sample" while he/she is working with the same gloves to "protect" your meat from germs! UGH!
ReplyDeleteick.
ReplyDeleteI also heard that for every NINE times in a row, you use Purell type cleaners, you need to wash your hands.
